The current town Termini Imerese was related to the ancient site of Himera, founded in 678 BC by Greek colonists arriving here from Zancle (today Messina).

This small town is close to the Himera archeological site and Caccamo Castle. Termini Imerese is far about forty kilometres east of Palermo and it is between Palermo and Cefalù.

The ruins of Himera (Imera) is famous for the Temple of Victory. Located in a coastal plain at the Imera River’s mouth, it is just about five kilometers east of Termini.

Termini Imerese keeps also fragments of Roman architectural beauty and little remains of a hilltop manor. Termini''s Civic Museum has a collection of ancient archeological pieces, a good numismatic collection of the area and also interesting Arab finds.
