Chios ferries About Chios

Chios one of the most beautiful islands in all of Greece, which will leave you speechless, takes its name from Poseidon's son Chios. It is believed that Homer was born on this island.  There are many archaeological finds, dating back to the Neolithic period.

During your vacation you will have many sights to unearth, including museums, one of the most famous being the mastiha museum, dedicated to the mastic trees you will find on the island, from which material is made in order to make delicious syrups.

Other museums you should visit are the archaeological museum and the Byzantine museum. You can stroll through the charming medieval villages, such as Pyrgi and Olympia.

The main port is Chios town, a small, very picturesque village facing the Turkish coast.

After so much culture, it is time to explore the enchanting beaches the island has to offer:
One of the most beatiful beaches you may have the pleasure of visiting is the original Mavra Volia, with its black pebbles and dark, but crystal clear sea!
On the other hand, if you are fascinated by the golden beaches, you can visit Vroulidia a real paradise, ideal for snorkelers, thanks to its seabed.

If you want to venture among trails surrounded by green vegetation, the ideal beach is Giosonas.
Most of the beaches, are equipped and provide restaurants, bars and taverns where you can enjoy your drink, surrounded by the inebriating scent of saltiness.

Typical restaurants will serve you traditional island dishes such as braised goat or egg squid. If you are a vegetarian, you can try fried green tomatoes or pumpkin pie.
